Adolescent SportsI am super excited to say that earlier this year, I accepted a position at Children’s Hospital to develop and manage the area’s first clinic dedicated to providing physical therapy services for pediatric, adolescent, and college-age athletes. While new to the area, this is not a new concept and I have had the privilege to meet with and discuss the process with hospitals with similar specialties around the country. From Cincinnati to Atlanta to Philadelphia to Los Angeles, it has been fun to brainstorm and work with these well-respected, internationally-known clinicians to develop our program. I’m excited that we’re able to join this list of facilities that provide highly specialized care to this unique group of athletes.

During these meetings, it has been obvious–and all of us agree–that while similarities exist, adjustments are necessary during the rehabilitation from sports injuries as kids are not simply miniature adults. They have different needs and require different timelines.

Soccer-FemaleIn addition to the Children’s Sports Medicine Team and Children’s Physicians, we will be working with several other physicians, schools, clubs, and coaches. The clinic will open in four weeks and I will share another update as that date gets closer . . . I can’t wait!!!  In the meantime, feel please follow us on on Twitter–@ChildrensSports–for updates.

I look forward to sharing our program’s progress over the coming years. It’s an exciting time for Children’s Hospital and I am thrilled to be part of it!
