There’s something special about watching someone you love share their art with the world. My wife Sunni’s poetry collection, Purple Ice Cream, began in private notebooks where she’d write her thoughts and feelings, hidden away from others’ eyes. It wasn’t until a high school literature teacher discovered her talent that some of these poems found their first audience.

What strikes me most about this collection is its raw honesty. In “Somewhere In Me,” she writes:

Somewhere in my chest,
there is a lost soul
who cannot see.
Somewhere in my chest,
beneath all that pain
is me.

These words capture what makes Sunni’s poetry so compelling–her ability to articulate the deep emotions we all experience but struggle to express. Throughout the collection, she explores love, loss, self-discovery, and resilience. Each poem offers a glimpse into moments that shaped her journey.

First published fifteen years ago, Purple Ice Cream became unavailable when the original publisher changed their process. Now, Sunni has decided to republish it, allowing new readers to discover these poems and previous readers to revisit them. Living on the North Shore of Boston with our family, she continues to write, now with the confidence of someone who knows the value of sharing their voice.

Watching her share these deeply personal pieces has been wonderful. Her vulnerability and strength shine through every page. For those interested in experiencing these poems for themselves, Purple Ice Cream is now available for purchase on Amazon as an e-book and paperback.
