The Pace Calculator

That Tells You The Truth

Any calculator can tell you what pace you need. This one also helps you see whether that goal is realistic—for your body, your mileage, and your timeline. Enter a goal time and get your paces, predicted times at every distance, and training pace ranges. Then run the Reality Check: it’ll show you whether you can build to race day safely, or whether that goal might be a better fit for your next training cycle.

THE HEALTHY ATHLETE PROJECT Performance Without Interruption

What's your pace?

Enter a goal time for any distance. Get your pace—and predicted times for every other distance, from the 400m to the marathon.

Can your body get there safely?

A goal pace only matters if your training can support it by race day. This checks two things for the Marathon (26.2 miles) (change it in the dropdown above): whether you can safely build the volume, and—if you add a recent effort—whether your goal time up top is a realistic fitness target.

Predictions use the Riegel formula—an estimate of equivalent performances, assuming appropriate training for each distance. Built by David Potach, PT, Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist.
