Think about the moment a hamstring tears—it’s almost always as the muscle is lengthening at high speed, like the late swing phase of a sprint. Landing from a jump, decelerating before a cut, absorbing a runner’s foot strike thousands of times: all eccentric, all high-risk.
Train the phase that breaks you. When we deliberately load the lengthening portion of a movement—slow negatives, Nordic-style hamstring work, controlled step-downs—we build tissue that’s tougher precisely where and when it tends to fail.
