Last week I was fortunate to attend the American College of Healthcare Executives Congress 2024 in Chicago. What an event! It provided me with the opportunity to deepen my knowledge of healthcare management, sharpen my leadership skills, and network with other healthcare executives from across the country. In attending the various sessions, I gained valuable insights into the latest trends and best practices in healthcare management, which I look forward to applying to my work and share with my colleagues.
The opening session included Daniel Pink as the keynote speaker this morning to kick things off . . . his talk alone was worth the trip, just fantastic stuff in general, but also on the unique emotion many (all?) of us experience: regret.
He identified four primary types of regret:
- Foundation regrets
- If only I’d done the work
- Take away: Do the work!
- Boldness regrets
- If only I’d taken the chance; most regret not taking the chance
- Take away: Take your shot!
- Moral regrets
- If only I’d done the right thing
- Take away: Do the right thing!
- Connection regrets
- If only I’d reached out
- Take away: When in doubt, reach out!
His conclusion: nearly all of us have regrets, and that’s ok. When we experience one of those four types, use that as motivation to grow, to learn, to do the take away listed. So cool to hear his thoughts and how he framed regret.
The ACHE Congress was a wonderful event that I enjoyed tremendously.
