As a physical therapist, attending professional conferences and events is crucial for staying up-to-date with the latest research, techniques, and industry trends. One of the most valuable events I have had the pleasure of attending is the American Physical Therapy Association’s (APTA) Combined Sections Meeting (CSM). I was able to attend CSM again last week–it was the most attended CSM at 17,000 attendees. As always, I left refreshed and energized.

The APTA CSM is an annual event that brings together physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students from across the country to learn, network, and collaborate. The conference features a wide range of educational sessions, workshops, and poster presentations covering various aspects of physical therapy, including orthopedics, neurology, pediatrics, geriatrics, and more.

One of the benefits of attending the APTA CSM is the opportunity to learn from some of the most respected experts in the field. I was also presented with numerous opportunities for networking and collaboration. The conference attracts thousands of attendees from diverse backgrounds and specialties, making it an ideal platform for connecting with colleagues, sharing ideas, and building professional relationships. I have found that the conversations and connections made at the APTA CSM have been invaluable for my professional growth and development.

My favorite part, however, is seeing those I haven’t seen for a while. I was able to spend quite a bit of time with Terry Grindstaff, a professor at Creighton University. I was also able to meet with several former colleagues and watch former students present sport-related research during platform presentations.

Attending as much as I have has been a valuable experience for me as a physical therapist. The conference provides an excellent platform for learning, networking, and staying up-to-date with the latest developments in the field. I highly recommend that all physical therapists, regardless of their level of experience or specialty, consider attending the APTA CSM to enhance their professional growth and ultimately improve the quality of care they provide to their patients.
